More backstage details have emerged on Bryan Danielson being added to the main-event of WrestleMania 37 in April.
Ahead of this year’s WrestleMania, it was made official that both Danielson and Royal Rumble winner Edge would challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship in the final match of the two-night event. During the build to the match, it was teased that the bout could’ve been Danielson’s final opportunity to headline the Show of Shows.
According to Fightful Select (subscription required), Danielson’s addition to the Universal Title bout was not planned as of the Royal Rumble in January. It was also noted that there was never any serious consideration for Danielson to win the men’s Rumble.
Danielson’s WWE contract notably expired following his match with Roman Reigns on the April 30 edition of SmackDown. He is currently signed to AEW, making his first appearance for the promotion at the end of All Out on September 5.
The former WWE Champion advanced to the finals of the 2021 AEW World Championship Eliminator tournament after defeating Eddie Kingston on AEW Rampage.
