WWE Champion Big E has opened up about The New Day being split up in the WWE Draft, following their brief reunion.
Despite being a SmackDown star at the time, Big E cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on the September 13 edition of Raw to win The Red Brand’s top title.
For a few weeks, Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods brought the band back together on Raw, before Kingston and Woods were drafted to SmackDown.
Speaking with TalkSPORT, Big E revealed that the group were given a heads up that they’d be split in the roster shake-up. Noting that being a solo act has helped him grow as a performer, Big E said:
“We got some heads up so we knew it was coming, and I wasn’t shocked. I was hoping, though, that we’d be on the same brand and they could have done their own thing and I could have done mine.
“It’s always disappointing. I will say, I think the last year of being on SmackDown while they were on RAW did help me grow as a wrestler and a performer. There are some benefits, but really I’m just trying to find the silver lining of it all – it still sucks.
“But at the same time, I want to make sure I’m not standing in the way of those guys growing or putting us in a situation where they’re just running out there for my matches and being my cheerleaders, I don’t think that would be best for them. So we’re all trying to make the best of it.
At Survivor Series on November 21, Big E will do battle with Universal Champion Roman Reigns. On Monday’s edition of Raw, Big E will respond to Kevin Owens, who seemingly turned heel during the most recent episode.
