Earlier today it was reported that WWE had filed a trademark application for the name “Gunther Stark”.
Eagle-eyed Googlers then typed the name into the search engine and realised very quickly that WWE seem to have made a huge error in their choice of name.
It turns out that Günther Stark was the name of a Nazi military commander in World War II. He served as a Captain Lieutenant for Hitler’s U-Boat command in the English Channel.
Of course it is incredibly unlikely WWE knew this when making the application, but you would have thought maybe someone could have done a quick Google search when thinking of a new name for a wrestler.
We’ll have to see whether WWE decides to withdraw the application as a result of this news.
