We live in an age where social and search engine searches are almost as important to wrestling promotions as ticket sales are.
Social media reach, YouTube views and Google searches are a vital aspect of any company’s success, so seeing how many times a show was searched on Google is very important.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed AEW Double or Nothing did a similar Google search number to a normal WWE Premium Live Event, but not as many as one of WWE’s bigger shows, like SummerSlam.
He said:
“They almost did 200,000, which is the usual number for a WWE pay-per-view. Not a major pay-per-view, SummerSlam would probably do more, but most of your WWE pay-per-views. Hell in a Cell will probably do 200,000. So it was along those lines.
“I know (interest) was really big because I know people who were asking me that are not really super big fans when I got home about MJF. So I know it kind of got bigger than just the normal hardcore wrestling fans, but, on Saturday, the day before the show, MJF and Wardlow were not top 20. So it was not, you know, mainstream big or anything like that. It was big in our world but it was not big out of the world. The pay-per-view itself was pretty big.”

What you should probably be searching is WrestleTalk.com and then making it your homepage, because that’s just as important.
WWE still has a much bigger social reach than AEW and is a far bigger global brand, so seeing these Google numbers will likely be a cause for celebration within AEW.
