John Cena On If He Thinks A 17th World Title Reign Is On The Cards WWE

John Cena has commented on the possibility of a record breaking 17th World Championship reign.

WWE touts Ric Flair and John Cena as the most decorated stars in the promotion’s history, with both men amassing 16 recognised world championship reigns during their respective careers.

With Cena’s impact on modern WWE, many fans have speculated that he will eventually break Ric Flair’s record with a 17th world title reign.

During a Q&A session at Comic-Con Wales, Cena noted that he’s not certain another title win is on the cards.

Calling the WWE main event scene a young guy’s game, Cena said:

“Well, that’s a very difficult question. Like I said, I know I’m not done in the ring. I am realistic with where I’m at in my life. I’m 45, and I can tell you from being a 16-time champion, it is very tough to win. The top of that mountain is a young man’s game.

“I’m not done in the ring. but I’m not certain that that’s in the cards. We’ll see. Stories yet to be told because if I’m in the ring, I got a chance. I am just saying I’ve been there, so kudos to the young guys doing it.”

Cena most recently won the WWE Championship at Royal Rumble 2017, losing it to Bray Wyatt at Elimination Chamber less than a month later.

He unsuccessfully challenged for Roman Reigns’ Universal Championship at SummerSlam 2021.

Reigns is currently referred to at the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, after ‘unifying’ the Universal and WWE titles at WrestleMania 38 in April. A recent report indicated that WWE might split the two world titles soon, which you can read more about right here.
