UPDATE – Nikkita Lyons has now responded to this report – you can see her response at this link.
A report from Dave Meltzer reveals the fascinating reasons why there was a change to tonight’s plans for WWE SmackDown.
While there was a late change to have Toxic Attraction enter the WWE Women’s Tag Team Tournament in lieu of the previously announced tag team, more details have now been revealed.
While the match would have needed to be changed anyway as Zoey Stark suffered a concussion on Tuesday at NXT Heatwave in her NXT Women’s Championship match against Mandy Rose, the reason for Lyons being pulled is fascinating.
According to a report from Dave Meltzer, Nikkita Lyons could not appear on WWE SmackDown because she wasn’t able to travel to Canada due to being unvaccinated against COVID-19.
With immigration policies still in place requiring travellers to provide proof of vaccination to enter Canada, Nikkita Lyons reportedly was unable to attend the SmackDown taping in Montreal, Quebec on August 19.
Perhaps more interestingly, WWE was apparently unaware that Lyons was unvaccinated and thusly unable to enter the country.
The replacement team, Toxic Attraction (Jacy Jayne and Gigi Dolin) went on to beat Natalya and Sonya Deville to advance in the Women’s Tag Team Tournament to determine new champs after the titles were vacated by Sasha Banks and Naomi.
If you’re in the UK but didn’t manage to get tickets to Clash at the Castle on September 3, WrestleTalk is hosting a watch party at The Joiner on Worship in Shoreditch, London, and we’d love for you to join us! Click here for more details.
