Tony Khan has provided clarification on the rules surrounding the Casino Ladder Match poker chip that MJF won at All Out.
In the closing moments of the September 4 pay-per-view, the mystery ‘joker’ who won the ladder match earlier in the night unmasked to reveal that it was actually MJF who had earned himself a future AEW World Title shot.
In the weeks since MJF’s win, the star has indicated that he can have his title match whenever he chooses, leading some to believe that the poker chip will work in a similar way to WWE’s Money in the Bank contract.
On the Barstool’s Rasslin podcast, Tony Khan clarified that the chip can be used during any sanctioned AEW event. Teasing that the chip could come into play at Dynamite: Grand Slam, Khan said:
“I think any time, any sanctioned event we can certainly make it happen. In this day and age, it’s a world that’s uh, with live television and pay-per-view events, and all [of these other] opportunities, it’s exciting to have a contender out there looming and to have this big championship match tonight on Dynamite.
“Certainly, it’s that much more interesting to have two of the best wrestlers in the world, Bryan Danielson versus Jon Moxley one on one for the world championship, and to have a great wrestler like MJF looming in the background as a top contender with the right to challenge for the title any time. It’s a very interesting championship picture right now in AEW.”
In a recent interview with Barstool Rasslin’, MJF revealed that he does have to let ‘someone’ know about his plans to ‘cash in’, noting:
“I do have to have a conversation with someone beforehand, but that does not mean all parties need to be in the know of said conversation.”
Not counting his Casino Ladder Match victory, MJF last wrestled a full match at Double or Nothing in May, losing to Wardlow in singles action.
