Konnan has seemingly revealed what Colt Cabana said backstage at AEW about CM Punk.
On the latest edition of his “Keepin’ It 100” podcast, Konnan recalled a conversation he had Colt Cabana several months ago while backstage at AEW.
During the conversation, Konnan asked Cabana what he thought when he knew CM Punk was joining AEW.
Konnan said:
“When I saw Colt Cabana backstage, I remember asking him, ‘So what’s up with you now that Punk is back?’ He was like, ‘Yeah, man. We’re not really talking.’
“I go, ‘Come on, dude. After all these years, you guys were boys’ He said, ‘Yeah, man. He just won’t talk to me.’ He would kind of look around, like, he knew.”
Konnan said, looking back, it seemed as though Colt Cabana knew his days at AEW were numbered.
He continued:
“Now when I look back, he knew that he was probably going to get the axe from Punk somehow, or Tony did it to make Punk happy, or Punk asked him, because now when I think back to that day, I remember telling him ‘Bro, you can’t even sit down and just say, Hey, let’s reset our relationship.’
“He said, ‘Nah, man. He won’t even talk to me.’ But anyway, I was happy to see him back because obviously, he was the victim of some sort of chicanery there, politics. He looked good. Jericho did a great job and made him look good. Jericho does a good job making people look good.”
When Colt Cabana’s AEW contract expired a few months ago, Tony Khan signed him to Ring of Honor instead.
It was speculated that his checkered relationship with CM Punk factored into this decision, although Tony Khan has denied this to be the case.
Cabana has a long history with CM Punk, predating back to their days on WWE.
Colt Cabana recently made his AEW return during Dynamite on November 2 to face Chris Jericho.
His return was considered to be a signal that CM Punk is gone for good from AEW following the backstage altercation that occurred after AEW All Out.
According to previous reports, Cabana’s return was seen by AEW CEO Tony Khan as a morale boost to the locker room after the All Out events.
