Karl Anderson has provided an interesting update on his NJPW status and future following his WWE return.
Anderson notably won NJPW’s NEVER Openweight Championship in June at this year’s Dominion special.
The Good Brother was scheduled to defend his gold against Hikuleo at the November 5 NJPW Battle Autumn event.
After this match was made however, Anderson and Luke Gallows made their WWE returns on the October 10 edition of Raw, and were booked for the Crown Jewel premium live event, which also took place on November 5.
After initially stating that if Anderson didn’t show up for Battle Autumn, he’d be stripped of the gold, NJPW ultimately announced a replacement match for Hikuleo, and Anderson still holds the NEVER Openweight Title.
On WWE After The Bell, Anderson explained things from his point of view, noting:
“I’m gonna go back on my time. New Japan Pro-Wrestling usually strips their champions when they can’t make a show.
“They threw a leniency in there because they announced the match when we hadn’t totally agreed what we were going to do. The dates were coming up…I’m going to comeback and defend my championship.
“I messaged Rocky Romero, he’s a great friend and one of the office brothers, and I go, ‘I can’t wait to announce this date because these people are really hating me right now.’ I’m keeping this title and never giving it back.”
It was recently reported that there are active plans for Anderson to wrestle with NJPW, despite his WWE return.
