When the final members of the MMA Horsewomen, Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke, signed with WWE, fans’ minds began speculating.
The concept of the Four Horsewomen of MMA (Duke, Shafir, Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler) colliding with WWE’s Four Horsewomen (Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch and Bayley) seemed like a match that wrote itself.
The match ultimately never ended up happening, with Rousey leaving WWE after her match at WrestleMania 35.
When Ronda returned to the company at this year’s Royal Rumble, both Duke and Shafir had been released from the company.
Marina Shafir has since debuted for All Elite Wrestling, where she has aligned with Nyla Rose and Vickie Guerrero.
Speaking to Renee Paquette on The Sessions, Shafir spoke about why the match never ended up happening, claiming that ‘egos’ stopped the match taking place.
She said:
“Hey, egos were at play. There’s too many f**king cooks in the kitchen sometimes. In more ways than one.
“I feel like, I never knew this, but I just feel like professional wrestling was a little more exclusive back in the day. It wasn’t just about politicking, it was about really showing respect, not kissing ass or feeling like you have to give something up of yourself to take it to the next level.”
Shafir’s comments prompted a response from Bayley, who said:
Egos?!???? TF. I’m humble as pie!!!!!!!!!!!! Who wants a damn slice? It’s pumpkin season
While Duke and Shafir were released from the company, Rousey and Shayna are currently a pairing on SmackDown.
Rousey is set to defend her SmackDown Women’s Championship at Survivor Series against Shotzi.
