An update has emerged on Tama Tonga’s NJPW exit, amid speculation that Tonga could soon sign with WWE.
After defeating Shingo Takagi for the NEVER Openweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 18 on January 4, Tonga announced that January would be his last month with NJPW.
With rumors swirling about Tonga’s next move, the Bullet Club co-founder dropped his NEVER Openweight gold to EVIL at the January 20 New Beginning in Nagoya show.
Tonga cut a promo following the bout, during which he thanked the fans and told them he loved them.
Tama Tonga then bowed when leaving the arena, which you can watch in a clip below shared by NJPW WORLD on Twitter.
NJPW also shared a full report on Tonga vs EVIL, noting that Tonga ‘bade an emotional farewell to the Nagoya crowd‘.
Tonga has previously been the subject of ‘internal talk’ in WWE, with it being reported in May 2023 that there had been talk about Tonga within the company for some time.
With Tama Tonga currently residing in Orlando, Florida, the city where WWE’s Performance Center is based, it has been speculated that the former NEVER Openweight Champion could soon put pen to paper with WWE.
There have also been rumors that Kazuchika Okada could soon join WWE, with it also being announced that Okada is finishing up with NJPW soon.
