Several AEW names have taken to social media to address recent claims made about the recent Escape The Cage match.
An Escape The Cage elimination match took place on Saturday’s (January 27) episode of Collision, with Brody King, Buddy Matthews & Malakai Black of the House of Black losing to Daniel Garcia and FTR’s Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler.
With the stipulation meaning that the match ended once one team escaped the cage, nobody had to suffer a pinfall or submission loss in the bout.
Buddy Matthews and Brody King have now fired back at Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez, who had indicated that the match was changed to an Escape The Cage match because someone in the House of Black had “complained about doing a job” and losing.
Meltzer also claimed that two members of the House of Black are planning to join WWE “as soon as they can”.
Buddy Matthews, formerly Murphy in WWE, took to Twitter to share a photo of his AEW roster profile showing his 1-3 2024 win/loss record, writing:
For a “Reporter” he doesn’t know much of do ANY research! lol
Brody King also tweeted about this, noting that the match stipulation hadn’t changed, just the wording on the graphics advertising the bout:
Funny how someone’s opinion just becomes fact because they’ve been watching wrestling a long time. The format and stipulation of the cage match was always what it was going to be. It’s not our fault the wording on the graphic changed.
Will Washington, who works as AEW’s Wrestling Administration Coordinator, also stated that the plan was always for the match to have escape rules, tweeting:
I usually don’t comment on stuff like this, but before this idea spreads or gets out of hand, the wording change was just for clarity.
It was absolutely escape rules when the first match graphic dropped.
This edition of AEW Collision went up against WWE’s Royal Rumble premium live event, which also took place on Saturday (January 27).
