There has been an update on Jon Moxley’s current absence from AEW television amid being left out of the Tag Team Championship tournament.
The Blackpool Combat Club’s Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli were victorious against FTR back at AEW Revolution.
However, fans were confused as to why the duo were missing from the AEW World Tag Team Championship tournament bracket, especially considering FTR were featured in the tournament despite losing to Moxley and Claudio.
Dave Meltzer spoke about the duo’s absence from the tournament on Wrestling Observer Radio, to which he said:
“I specifically asked why they weren’t in, and there was like, no reason. They just didn’t put them in because, whatever reason – they didn’t put them in.”
In an update from Fightful Select (subscription required), while they can not speak on the booking decisions, they did learn that the current time off for Moxley was planned ahead of time, and he and Claudio were not going to be available during the tournament.
Moxley is set for upcoming bookings in Mexico next week, as well as in Japan the week after, which is when the bulk of the tournament would be set to take place.
His match in Mexico was planned well over a month ago, and by then would have been unavailable to participate in the tournament.
