Despite a brief run alongside Reverend D-Von in 2002, Batista was one of SmackDown‘s biggest stars when he made his re-debut on the brand in 2005. Batista brought the World Heavyweight Championship that he won from Triple H at WrestleMania 21, and served as ‘the man’ on SmackDown for over two years.
The ‘Animal’ was pushed as the focal point and champion of the show for the remainder of 2005, having notable rivalries with JBL and Eddie Guerrero. He would relinquish the title due to injury in January of 2006, resulting in him missing six months. Upon his return, Batista jumped right back into the title picture and captured the championship once again by defeating then-champion King Booker.
His best work on SmackDown took place in 2007, when he engaged in a year-long rivalry with the Undertaker. The rivalry would win the Wrestling Observer ‘Feud of the Year’ award, and Batista was able to get two pinfall victories over Undertaker during this period.
He switched brands three times during the final two years of his WWE run, but his longest period at the top in his career came on SmackDown from 2005-2008.
