7. Finn Balor
At Beast In The East 2015, John Cena was one of the first competitors to congratulate Finn Bálor after he won the NXT Championship. How fitting would it be, six years later, for Bálor, once again the NXT Champion, to battle Cena?
The Demon King started to make a name for himself on The Gold Brand while Cena was still at the top of WWE. Alas, when Bálor made his Raw debut, John Cena was wrestling for Smackdown.
Despite their careers heading in different directions, Cena and Bálor managed to have one singles match before The Champ headed to Hollywood.
Cena defeated The Prince on Raw in 2018. Bálor pinned Cena in their last in-ring encounter however, winning a four-way match in 2019.
With Bálor back in NXT, and Cena a special attraction again, both men are in similar positions to when they first met in 2015. A possible torch-passing encounter, this match would certainly be competitive.
6. Adam Cole
Adam Cole certainly knows how to make a debut. Posing over a prone Drew McIntyre as NXT TakeOver Brooklyn III went off the air, Cole’s first night on The Gold Brand was definitely memorable.
There isn’t much that The Undisputed Era leader hasn’t done in NXT. Imagine if the former NXT Champion made his main roster debut by targeting The Leader of The Cenation.
It would make perfect sense for a power-hungry Cole to want a high profile WrestleMania bout. Cena’s 2015 US Championship reigns saw the veteran desperate to prove he could hang with the younger talent, so The Champ would most likely want to dispute Cole’s claims of being the best.
Representing two different eras of wrestling, Cena vs Cole would intrigue even the most cynical wrestling fan.
5. Keith Lee
Keith Lee had an amazing 2020. From winning the NXT Championship to pinning Randy Orton, Lee proved that he really is Limitless.
John Cena has never shared the ring with Lee. The Champ had reduced his WWE schedule by the time Lee was asking NXT to bask in his glory.
Many current WWE stars became popular after showing fans what they could do against John Cena. Kevin Owens, for example, shocked the world by pinning The Champ in his main roster debut at Elimination Chamber 2015.
Keith Lee had a dominant debut, immediately associating himself with Drew McIntyre on his first night on Raw. Unfortunately, Lee is beginning to become lost in Raw’s giant roster.
A match against Cena would be a refreshing opportunity to remind fans of Lee’s unique athleticism. Keith Lee could tear the house down at WrestleMania, and make John Cena bask in his glory.
