10 Potential WrestleMania 37 Opponents For John Cena

4. Edge

John Cena and Edge will forever be associated with one another. Not only did their rivalry define the Ruthless Aggression era, the 16-time champion was involved in one of Edge’s final matches before his hiatus.

Edge stepped away from the ring in early 2011 due to career threatening neck issues. John Cena’s career only became more eventful after 2011, with incredible rivalries with the likes of CM Punk, The Rock and AJ Styles.

Towards the end of the 2010s, The Champ decided to pursue projects outside of the ring. Cena stopped wrestling for WWE full-time… just as Edge was cleared to return to in-ring competition.

Surprising fans during the 2020 Royal Rumble, Edge returned to WWE after 9 years away from the ring. The Rated-R Superstar made his return to one-on-one action at WrestleMania 36, the same night that Cena “vanished” from the company.

Edge and John Cena have been more like ships passing in the night in recent years. If they renewed their rivalry and had one more match, it would be the talk of the wrestling world.

3. Big E

John Cena is one of the most decorated competitors in wrestling history. Since his 2002 debut, there’s not much that The Champ hasn’t done in WWE.

One accolade that Cena has never won is the Intercontinental Championship. An IC title reign away from becoming a WWE Grand Slam Champion, Cena has every reason to target Big E.

The current Intercontinental Champion only recently resumed his singles career after years in the tag division. How important would E feel if he defended his title against one of the most dominant competitors in WWE history?

John Cena and Big E have only had one singles match, one of Cena’s 2015 United States Championship Open Challenges. How poetic would it be for Big E to give Cena a championship opportunity this year?

The former New Day member has changed significantly since Cena was last wrestling for WWE. If there’s a match that would be the perfect showcase for Big E’s singles talents, it would be this one.
