10 Things NXT Needs To Do Better

8. Make TV Episodes Live And Longer

While Raw being three hours is far too long, having NXT TV episodes last only one hour does work slightly to its detriment.

The point made earlier about talented workers like KUSHIDA, Keith Lee, Kassius Ohno and Dominik Dijkavoic having nothing to do in NXT could be somewhat solved if TV episodes were made to be two hours, or even 90 minutes. With WWE owning the WWE Network, it is not as if they have to negotiate with a broadcaster for the extra time.

NXT TV is fun and often has decent matches, but you could plausibly not watch any episode of NXT TV and just watch the Takeover events without missing out on a great deal.

NXT TV should be exciting, and longer episodes allowing for more storylines could help solve that. Having the NXT show before a Takeover event be used for secondary feuds like Mia Yim vs. Bianca Belair or Kassius Ohno vs. Keith Lee would make them feel like mini pay-per-view events, and they would them turn into must-watch TV.

Also, having NXT taped in advance is certainly to the brand’s detriment. The next set of NXT TV tapings take place on Wednesday and Thursday of next week. All TV shows in the build-up to NXT Takeover: Toronto will be taped, meaning that once again you don’t really have to watch every Wednesday night to know what’s going on.

While it is possible to avoid spoilers, having TV shows taped ahead of time does mean that major/shocking title changes or storyline developments are often left to the live Takeover specials, making TV episodes feel redundant.
