Why did it change? While the match did not change, the result did.

Vader was originally supposed to defeat Shawn Michaels to win the WWF Championship at SummerSlam then go onto work with him over the next few months, leading to a big rematch at Royal Rumble in San Antonio where Michaels would regain the strap.

However, Shawn hated working with Vader because he felt he was stiffing him every night. Michaels politicked his way out of the programme, with Sycho Sid given the spot instead.

Sid beat Shawn for the belt at Survivor Series three months later and dropped it back to Michaels in San Antonio at the Royal Rumble.
