8 Potential Opponents For Sting’s Retirement Match At AEW Revolution 2024 AEW

On the October 18 edition of AEW Dynamite, The Icon Sting announced his plans to retire from in-ring competition at AEW Revolution 2024.

The event, typically held in March, will mark three years since the Hall of Famer’s first AEW match at Revolution 2021, wrapping up his AEW run and his career in poetic fashion.

But now with the stage officially set, the question now becomes who will stand across the ring from The Stinger for his final hurrah.

While a tag team match of some description is way more likely, perhaps for his last dance Sting will buck that trend and compete in his first singles contest in almost a decade.

So, with that said let’s run through a list of eight possible candidates to receive the honor of being Sting’s final opponent.

8. Chris Jericho

Starting off the list with a match that many thought AEW was building towards during the summer, yet, somehow Sting and Chris Jericho have yet to ever face-off one on one.

While we did get to see the pair square off on two separate occasions in June, neither of those were in singles competition, meaning there is still life in renewing their feud next spring.

The fact that Sting already forced Y2J to tap on the June 28 Dynamite does present a motive for Jericho to challenge Sting.

Admittedly however, by then it perhaps wouldn’t make a ton of sense to go with Jericho and its likely many fans would groan if this was the match that got booked.

Although it certainly wouldn’t be most peoples first, second or even eighth choice, it would at least see Sting bow out against a man of comparable legacy.
