WWE
Chad Gable currently holds the WWE Intercontinental Championship, which he won from Penta at SummerSlam in August.
Following Gable’s title defenses against Rey Mysterio and Dragon Lee, there has been some speculation about the star who will eventually defeat the current titleholder for the gold.
WWE has many options to choose from when it comes to successors for Chad Gable, with there being many stars who would benefit from an Intercontinental Championship reign.
From stars who have yet to win gold on the main roster to current champions who could add another title to their collections, it would make a lot of sense to see any of these stars win the title which many refer to as WWE’s workhorse championship.
Here are three stars who could become Intercontinental Champion after Chad Gable.
Rey Fenix
Rey Fenix is the most immediate threat to Chad Gable’s Intercontinental Championship reign, after the October 6 Raw episode.
Following Fenix defeating Ethan Page on Raw, WWE confirmed that the luchador will challenge for Gable’s gold on next week’s show.
Fenix will have the opportunity to become a double champion, with the SmackDown star already holding the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship.
With Chad Gable having won the title from Penta, it’d be a full circle moment to see the other Lucha Brother dethrone him.
Je’Von Evans
Je’Von Evans could realistically make history in the next year, with Evans stating that he’s locked in and focused on two title records.
While Evans has stated on many occasions that he wants to break Randy Orton’s record to become the youngest WWE world champion, the 22-year old also has the opportunity to become the youngest Intercontinental Champion in WWE history.
If Je’Von Evans wins the gold before December 9, 2027, he will break the record currently held by Jeff Hardy, who was 23 years and 7 months old when he defeated Triple H for the title in April 2001.
Evans has been making a name for himself in Raw’s midcard scene for a number of months, so it’d be cool to see his Raw debut year culminate with a record-breaking championship win.
Bronson Reed
Despite being a dominant force on Raw, Bronson Reed has yet to win a traditional championship on the main roster, with his only title reign with the company being his 41 day stint with the NXT North American Championship in 2021.
We could see the Vision faction member target Chad Gable and the Intercontinental Championship, as Reed asserts himself as the singles star of the group.
With Bronson Reed set to face off against Oba Femi at Money in the Bank, we could see this feud continue, unable to be contained in New Orleans.
Adding the Intercontinental Title to this feud would be a good way to up the stakes, giving both stars the opportunity to fight for singles gold on the main roster.
