Following the events of AAA Noche de Los Grandes, Chad Gable has made his return to WWE television.

The former Olympian made his first appearance without his El Grande Americano mask since the summer of 2025 on the June 5 edition of Friday Night SmackDown.

Gable could now be in line for a major position on the company’s programming moving forward, meaning that he may have a big time match or plans for SummerSlam 2026, which will take place in his hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Here are seven potential Chad Gable WWE SummerSlam 2026 plans.

7. Rematch With El Grande Americano

At AAA Noche de Los Grandes, El Grande Americano defeated The Original El Grande Americano in a Mask vs. Mask Match.

Following his loss, The Original El Grande cut an emotional promo where he finally unmasked to reveal himself as Chad Gable.

Now that Gable has made his WWE return, there is a chance that he could rekindle his rivalry with Americano sometime in the future.

With WWE SummerSlam 2026 being one of the biggest shows of the year, this could lead to Gable and El Grande having a rematch this August in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

6. Rekindle Rivalry With Rey Mysterio

When Chad Gable started his personal vendetta against luchadors, this was during a rivalry with Rey Mysterio.

Gable as The Original El Grande Americano was scheduled to face Mysterio at WrestleMania 41.

Unfortunately, this bout never happened after Mysterio suffered an injury on the SmackDown before Mania.

Now that he is free to compete without the mask, fans could see Gable clash with Mysterio sometime down the line.

5. Being Brock Lesnar’s Final Opponent Of His Career

For several months, there have been rumors that Brock Lesnar might retire following WWE SummerSlam 2026.

With “The Biggest Party of the Summer” taking place from his hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota, it makes sense for Lesnar to want to close out his legendary career at this event.

While it seems like “The Beast Incarnate” will finish his rivalry with Oba Femi at the show, there might be other stars who might want this coveted spot.

Gable facing off with Lesnar for the first time would be interesting and give fans some flashbacks to the famous battles Brock has had with Kurt Angle in the past.

4. New Feud With CM Punk

Chad Gable has stepped in the ring with a lot of the top names on the WWE roster today.

However, one star who has only faced off with Gable in a three-way match in 2025 is CM Punk.

With Punk having returned to the company in 2023, it remains to be seen if he could have a singles bout against the former Olympian.

If WWE wants to give him a top position on the SummerSlam 2026 card, Gable could clash with Punk in a high profile singles match on the night in Minneapolis.

3. Trying To Finally Beat GUNTHER

One of the biggest rivals of Chad Gable’s career so far was GUNTHER during their feud over the Intercontinental Championship.

Despite a few meetings with one another, Gable was never able to score a victory over “The Ring General.”

Many fans believe Gable’s heel turn that took place in 2024 stems from his failure to take the IC Title from GUNTHER.

To rekindle this rivalry, it would be interesting to see a reformed Gable trying to take down GUNTHER in a grudge match at the WWE SummerSlam 2026 premium live event.

2. Facing Penta For WWE Intercontinental Championship

One of the first luchadors who got under the skin of Chad Gable in 2025 was none other than Penta.

Making his WWE debut in January 2025, Penta defeated Gable in his first match in the company.

From there, Penta scored other wins over the former Olympian and could be partially to blame for Gable taking on the mantle of El Grande Americano.

Now that he is the current WWE Intercontinental Champion, Penta could defend against Gable in a title bout at SummerSlam 2026.

1. Challenge Roman Reigns For World Heavyweight Championship

If WWE wants to capitalize on the momentum Chad Gable has obtained following his Mask vs. Mask Match in Lucha Libre AAA, the company could launch him straight to the main event picture.

Gable going after the World Heavyweight Championship would present the promotion with a fresh, new top star in the company.

While he could realistically face the winner of the King of the Ring tournament, Roman Reigns may find himself without a challenger, which might open the door for Gable to rise the ranks and become a contender for his title.

Reigns defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Gable would make for an intriguing and compelling main event for the two-night WWE SummerSlam 2026 PLE in the former Olympian’s hometown.
