Mike Santana’s new WWE name has potentially been revealed, with the company filing a trademark for what appears to be a new superstar name.
After months of speculation regarding his future, former two-time TNA World Champion Mike Santana made his long-awaited WWE debut on the July 21 episode of NXT, as he confronted NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo following his successful title defense against Naraku.
While Santana’s appearance was exciting for fans who have followed his journey from AEW, to TNA and now WWE, there has also been plenty of questions regarding what nae Santana will have in WWE.
Even though other TNA arrivals like Jordynne Grace and Joe Hendry managed to retain their names in WWE, Santana’s name was not mentioned during his appearance on last Tuesday’s NXT, with clips of the moment on social media and YouTube also not mentioning his name.
This is something that we’ve seen several times in recent years, with Blake Monroe, Ricky Saints and Naraku all arriving nameless in NXT in their first appearances, before later being given a brand new WWE name in follow up appearances.
While there was hope that Santana may not follow suit after all when it was noticed that the URL on WWE’s website featured the name ‘Mike Santana’ – with the name also being used on WWE’s Facebook post of his debut – it appears like he may, potentially be set to be renamed after all.
On July 24, WWE made a new trademark filing with the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) for ‘Cruz Montana’ – a name which is obviously quite similar to Mike Santana.
The filing’s description is as follows:
Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer rendered live and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information; fan club services, namely, organizing sporting events in the field of wrestling for wrestling fan club members; organizing social entertainment events for entertainment purposes for wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the fields of sports entertainment; online journals, namely blogs, in the field of sports entertainment.
While there is no confirmation that Cruz Montana is the new name of Mike Santana in WWE, that is the conclusion that fans on social media are, unsurprisingly jumping to in response to this new filing.
We will provide further updates on Mike Santana’s possible WWE name change as more information becomes available.
