Mike Santana Shares First Comments After WWE NXT Debut

Mike Santana has shared his first comments since making his surprise debut during the July 21 episode of WWE NXT.

Throughout 2026 there has been speculation regarding Mike Santana’s future in pro wrestling, with that talk intensifying when the former TNA World Champion dropped his title to Nic Nemeth at TNA Slammiversary 2026.

After that loss, Santana wrapped up with TNA and reports indicated that he was WWE bound at some point this Summer.

Well, it turns out fans didn’t have to wait too long to see the former AEW star show up on WWE programming, as last night’s episode of NXT went off the air with Santana interrupting NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo’s celebrations after he successfully defended his title against Naraku.

We didn’t hear from Santana during his first night as a WWE star, however, he did take to social media after his appearance to share his first comments.

Posting to Twitter, Santana wrote:

Mike Santana’s arrival in WWE caps off what has been an extraordinary journey for the New York native over the past few years.

Departing AEW and his long established Proud & Powerful tag team with Ortiz in early 2024, Santana bet on himself, continued to leave behind his past battle with drugs and alcohol addition, and truly shed his past label of being a tag team wrestler.

His ascent saw him become the undisputed face of TNA Wrestling over the past year, winning the company’s World Championship twice, with his first win being particularly memorable, as he defeated WWE’s Trick Williams in the main event of Bound for Glory 2025.

During his time in TNA, Santana also got the chance to impress in WWE, courtesy of the two companies’ partnership, and it was no doubt these appearances that further helped Santana arrive on their radar.

When reports of his expiring TNA contract emerged earlier this year, there was little doubt that he would follow this likes of Joe Hendry and Jordynne Grace in signing with WWE, and like them, it appears as if Santana is set to go through NXT before jumping to Raw or SmackDown.

Mike Santana’s Future Secured, But Questions Still Remain

While Mike Santana is now a part of WWE, perhaps the biggest talking point regarding his arrival is WWE’s refusal to acknowledge him by name, both during last night’s NXT broadcast, and on social media.

WWE’s YouTube upload of Santana’s debut is titled:”DEVELOPING: A new Superstar emerges in shocking moment”, while their Twitter post reads: “WOW!! A new face has stormed into NXT!”

This has already led to some frustration from fans, as this suggests that Santana will be getting a name change in WWE, despite already establishing himself on NXT TV under his current name, and the fact that he has retained his TNA entrance theme, which also, by the way, says “Santana what’s good?” in it’s opening moments.

Why Santana can’t follow the aforementioned Joe Hendry and Jordynne Grace in keeping his own name is a mystery right now, but fans will be waiting with baited breath to see what name WWE comes up with.

As seen with other NXT name changes in the recent past such as Naraku, Ricky Saints and Blake Monroe, a new name does eventually tend to become accepted over time, but with Santana, it seems especially baffling given how familiar the WWE NXT audience is with him already.
