AEW Star Reportedly Requested Release In 2025, ‘Nobody Knows What’s Up’ With Another

An AEW star reportedly requested their release from the company in 2025 amid recent speculation about another AEW star’s future.

Last night, AEW star Sammy Guevara got a lot of people talking, when he made sure to remove all mentions of AEW from his Twitter bio.

Guevara removing AEW from his bio got a lot of people asking about his status with the company, though he does remain listed on the AEW roster page as of this writing.

Tay Melo Requested AEW Release In 2025

In an update on Sammy Guevara’s status from Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer (subscription required), it was noted that ‘nobody in AEW’ seems to know what is up with Guevara, and that it’s expected we will know more when everyone gets to TV for tomorrow night’s Dynamite show.

However, Alvarez did note that Guevara’s wife Tay Melo had requested her release from AEW last year, but it was ultimately denied.

He wrote:

“Nobody in AEW seems to know what’s up with Sammy Guevara right now. Multiple sources told me that Tay Melo requested a release last year but it was denied. It’s expected we will know what’s up when everyone gets to TV tomorrow.”

Tay returned to AEW television alongside Anna Jay back in May after six months away, with them most recently teaming on the June 6 episode of AEW Collision against Divine Dominion.

Sammy Guevara & Tay Melo’s Future Outside Of AEW?

Sammy Guevara was branded as one of AEW’s four pillars upon the launch of the company in 2019, so him leaving the company would be notable for that if not for his now-infrequent appearances on television.

While Guevara is a wrestler who very much seems more suited to AEW than the WWE main roster, if he were to leave AEW, there would be a nice landing spot waiting for him in AAA should that be somewhere he wants to perform.

Guevara would add a big name to the AAA roster, with him a potential candidate to take the Cruiserweight or Latin American Championships when the time comes.

Tay Melo would fit onto the roster even better than Guevara given the lack of women’s names on the brand right now, as well as the pair of them chasing the AAA Mixed Tag Team Championship, titles that they have previously held during their time in AEW.
