In recent weeks, there has been speculation about a potential heel turn for Cody Rhodes following his loss to CM Punk at WWE SummerSlam.

Cody’s heel turn is one of the most major moments WWE has left to create, and with him recently talking in promos about ‘no longer being the nice guy’, it seems we are closer to ever to that moment.

However, WWE must learn from it’s mistakes with John Cena’s heel turn last year and have a plan for Cody’s turn to the darkside.

Here are some potential plans for Cody Rhodes’ WWE heel turn when the time comes.

Aligns With Paul Heyman

A potential alliance between Cody Rhodes and Paul Heyman got the world buzzing following SmackDown, when Cody signed off his promo with Heyman’s signature ‘that’s not a prediction, it’s a spoiler’.

This actually isn’t the first time in recent months that an alliance between Cody and Heyman had been teased on SmackDown this year, as the two men had a promo segment together back in May when Heyman announced Gunther had moved over to SmackDown as part of his favor to Heyman for facing Seth Rollins at WrestleMania.

During the promo, Heyman would sign off by saying ‘I’m not the one running out of options, sooner or later, they all need the Wise Man…’, and with Cody’s recent reference to Heyman, could we be seeing the beginnings of an alliance between the two.

While Heyman and Cody isn’t a dynamic that immediately sounds great, Heyman’s addition will make the inevitable third clash with Roman Reigns hit harder, this time with Heyman on the other side of the ring.

Embraces ‘Golden Boy’ Moniker By Becoming The Rock’s Champion

When The Shield broke up back in 2014, Seth Rollins betrayed his two brothers with the Shield Chair to join the Authority, becoming Triple H and Stephanie McMahon’s corporate champion.

Since the days of the Authority and Constable Corbin however, we have been lucky enough to have not had any heel authority figures on WWE television, so if Cody were to become a corporate champion, it wouldn’t be for Nick Aldis or Adam Pearce.

That immediately leaves The Rock, who offered his services to Rhodes last year before John Cena took him up on the offer, selling his soul to Rock instead.

With Cody running out of options, he could finally take Rock up on his offer, becoming the modern ‘corporate champion’ by selling out the a TKO Board Member.

The only concern is The Rock’s schedule, as hopefully WWE has learned by now not to put too much hope into his schedule, but realistically he would only be needed for the one angle this time.

Forms An ‘Elite’ New Alliance

If WWE wants to really get ‘meta’ with Cody’s heel turn, we could see him look to BECOME the corporate champion alone, with his own group of ‘elite’ allies.

Obviously WWE and AEW are never going to work together, but there are enough names that have moved over from AEW by now that Cody could form his own alliance between them to ‘take over’ WWE.

Cody, Ricky Saints, Ethan Page, Jade Cargill, Shawn Spears, Lexis King, Royce Keys, even names like CM Punk, Cody could form a powerful team to help him get back to the top of the company.

The concept of Cody’s ‘Elite’ alliance facing off against a team of WWE’s best in War Games would be surreal to see.

Retires Randy Orton

On last week’s WWE SmackDown, Cody continued his ongoing rivalry with Randy Orton, with Cody saying that QB1 is the ‘one who kills the Legend Killer’.

This is the second time in as many weeks that Cody has referenced retiring Randy Orton, with him asking Orton the prior week ‘who kills you?’ when praising Orton as the ‘last legend left’ in the company.

While Orton may be the heel right now, he is at a point in his career where the fans basically refuse to boo him, if Cody does get his vicious revenge on Orton, it won’t go down well.

Cody bringing a brutal end to Randy Orton’s career would be a very effective way to turn him into a villain.

‘Codelander’

During Cody’s final days in AEW, he had been heavily rejected by the fanbase as he continued to promise that he ‘would not turn’ on them.

Many thought this was leading to Cody becoming a ‘delusional’ heel that still thinks he’s the hero, often dubbed ‘Codelander’ due to his similarities to Homelander from The Boys.

However, Codelander would never come in AEW as he would leave the company in early 2022 for his return to WWE, where Codelander would never truly work due to how beloved he was by the WWE fans.

Four years on however, and Cody’s reactions are becoming more and more mixed due to fans growing tired of the American Nightmare’s schtick.

Perhaps the most dangerous version of heel Cody Rhodes would be a Cody Rhodes that doesn’t think he’s a heel.
