IMPACT Wrestling review – September 20, 2018

Aries Promo

We get a promo from Austin Aries and his crew with an old school vibe. I really, really liked this. Why would he give Texano Jr. a title shot? 1. They’ve taken out everybody else. 2.  According to Aries, Texano Jr. is the best from Mexico.

Aries puts over his opponent as being good. Why would he do that? Oh, that’s right. If you make your opponent seem credible it makes your win look more impressive. It makes you look like a better champion and a better wrestler to beat somebody who is a legitimate threat. Hmm.

Here I thought you were supposed to make them look weak and stupid. Finn Balor, you’re short and small. You’re easy to beat. Aries did the opposite here and it makes sense! Hallelujah.

While that was all great, it wasn’t the most interesting quote of the night. Aries finished his segment with a quote that sounds a bit familiar. Aries was going to win because he says “I’m the best in the world at what I do.” What that you say?

Rumours are that Jericho may make an appearance at Bound for Glory or in Impact. I was sure it would be against Callihan, but the champ referencing Jericho in a promo makes you wonder.

Backstage Segments

We then get several backstage segments. The Desi Hit squad were prepping for their match next week against LAX, which will be a non-title match.

Up next, we got a Grado and Joe Hendry music video. This was bad. Last week’s ‘Access Denied’ video had the home run line in it but unfortunately, this did not. This was a swing and a miss.

After the GWN moment of the week, we then get the Hall of Fame announcement for Bound for Glory: Abyss will be inducted into the TNA/Impact Hall of Fame. Great for him. He gave a lot to this company. I still wonder if rehashing a history that you’re trying to move away from is the best idea, but you got to sell the network.
