WWE
On last night’s episode of SmackDown, WWE fans around the world rejoiced when six months of Johnny Gargano laying backstage on a crate seemingly came to an end.
‘Johnny Wrestling’ made his return to the ring on the show, coming up short against CM Punk in the WWE Championship main event in his hometown of Cleveland.
Following the show, Gargano noted that he was ‘done laying down’, seemingly implying he will continue to regularly feature on the show going forward.
Here are some potential WWE plans for Johnny Gargano following his return to the ring last night on SmackDown.
Tag Team With Sami Zayn
Over the past few months, Sami Zayn has been the one appearing alongside Johnny Gargano attempting to wake him up from his state.
Sami has continued to call himself the ‘Last Real Good Guy’, with him believing he is standing up for guys like Gargano, with him giving Gargano a pep talk even last night prior to his WWE Title match.
With WWE reportedly looking to revive it’s tag team division soon, Sami and Gargano would make a fun alliance in that division, facing off against names like Bakusai and Fraxiom.
Feud With Sami Zayn
While Sami and Johnny forming a team would be fun, the issue with them forming a team is that Sami Zayn is currently presented as a heel on SmackDown.
Gargano, in his first match in over four months, was cheered wildly in Cleveland, even getting CM Punk booed by the crowd who were strongly behind Johnny Wrestling.
So running Gargano as a heel would be a bit of a misread, and a rivalry with Sami would probably be the better option for him over a team given the reaction he got on SmackDown against Punk.
Chasing AAA Mixed Tag Team Championship With Candice LeRae
While Johnny Gargano has now made his return to the ring, Candice LeRae was also the target of a recent promo by CM Punk, where he told both to get back to who they used to be.
The SmackDown women’s roster is currently stacked, and while Candice would easily make for a good addition to the roster, her current position on the roster would struggle to see her move up the card, through no fault of her own.
However, WWE has sent a number of stars down to AAA in recent months, with more heading down for TripleMania 34 next weekend.
Johnny and Candice would make for great AAA Mixed Tag Team Champions.
Qualifying For Money In The Bank
During the match with CM Punk on SmackDown, Gargano got several nearfalls on the Best In The World, including Sami Zayn running in to hit Punk with the title.
With how close Gargano got to capturing the championship, it stands to reason that he won’t simply go away after coming within seconds of becoming WWE Champion.
Money In The Bank is just around the corner, with the winner earning a shot at the world title any time over the next year.
Gargano qualifying for Money In The Bank in order to get another shot at Punk would be a logical next step.
Dethroning Baron Corbin For United States Championship
At WWE Sunday Night’s Main Event, Baron Corbin will face off with Lil Yachty in Yachty’s first WWE match, with Trick Williams getting another shot at Corbin if Yachty survives.
WWE is in a bit of a weird position here, as Yachty will almost certainly survive the five minutes against Corbin, but arguably Trick should not regain the title as he looks to move higher up the card on SmackDown.
If Corbin can make it out of SNME still as United States Champion, there are very limited babyfaces for him to face, especially after he already disposed of Carmelo Hayes.
A reheated Johnny Gargano could easily be that guy.
