6 Times WWE Failed To Use The Elimination Chamber To Create New Stars

4. Baron Corbin (Elimination Chamber 2017)

Unlike Mike Knox, I vividly remember Baron Corbin’s role in the 2017 Elimination Chamber match, as it is one of the greatest Chamber matches in history, per this writer.

Believe it or not, WWE was at one point in time building Corbin up as a future credible WWE Champion. Corbin was on the cusp of the main event scene on SmackDown Live during the brand split in 2016, which earned him his place in this match.

Corbin was the upstart in a match involving former WWE Champions Dean Ambrose, The Miz and AJ Styles, then-WWE Champion John Cena and the man who would win the title that night, Bray Wyatt.

Corbin was the first man eliminated in the match when Dean Ambrose pinned him, which resulted in Corbin attacking him to set up his Intercontinental Championship victory at WrestleMania…

…which was bumped to the kick-off show, and he lost it, failing to capture the title. Despite winning Money In The Bank, Corbin quickly fell into the established midcard role that he still finds himself in today.

Corbin’s presence in this match is not as jarring to look back on as Mike Knox’s is, as he has still had a successful career, just not as the top level heel WWE saw him as back in early 2017.
