WrestleTalk Roundtable – WWE Raw – December 17, 2018

What was the worst part of last night’s episode?

Eric Stites

I really didn’t like the “changes” they made to Raw, or lack thereof. I was expecting something like a brand new general manager. I’m disappointed that we’re seemingly just getting the McMahon family as the on screen authority figures now. We’ve seen so much of that in the past so I think that it would have been nice to see something completely new. I’m willing to give this a chance, but I much would have preferred a new GM like ‘Woken’ Matt Hardy. Is it too much to ask for some original content?

Worst Moment: WWE attempting to blame an on-air character for Raw‘s woes. I mean, really? I’m not the biggest Baron Corbin fan, but I’m not stupid either. The audience, at large, must see the problem here.

The McMahons should not be able to in one breath admit the faults of their own product, yet pass themselves off as baby faces, and victims of Baron Corbin’s poor management style. The answer is not to see even more McMahons on television, yet that is what we were given. Being constantly reminded of the opening segment, where the Fantastic Four were here to ‘take back’ Raw, was just silly.

The one thing that got in the way of my enjoyment of the flow of the show was the pure length of the women’s gauntlet match. A lot of the individual match-ups were entertaining, but between commercial interruptions and some genuinely slow moments, I thought that this was maybe one or two participants too many for a gauntlet.

That said, this is more of a nitpick than a real issue.

The opening segment and the lack of fresh new match-ups. Ironically, this is one of the selling points they kept mentioning about in the first segment. That first hour was the opening segment. It was bland and uninspired. The only thing that helped it was how hot the crowd was and how involved they were. I didn’t need to see Corbin get beat up by the same men who beat him up in practically the same fashion the prior night on TLC. Also, while I love both competitors, I don’t really care about the Rollins/Ambrose feud. Nor do I care about the Elias and Lashley one.

One thing that really was a missed opportunity was revealing the NXT wrestlers that will be called up in the next weeks and months instead of using them as surprise debuts. It’s bizarre how something so simple could have been messed up.
