WWE SmackDown viewers were left with no doubt that GUNTHER has a negative impression of Danhausen, but that may be about to change.
Over the past weeks, Danhausen has been reaching out to GUNTHER, seemingly attempting to form a friendship with the star who continues to seek a championship opportunity of his own.
This week’s episode of WWE SmackDown saw Danhausen interrupt a backstage interview with GUNTHER. Unfortunately, fans wouldn’t find out why GUNTHER attacked Finn Balor and Sami Zayn, but Danhausen would find himself once again threatened and thrown into storage containers for his trouble.
It’s unlikely Danhausen will be put off when it comes to his unwilling new friend, but there are options to change the trajectory of their relationship:
GUNTHER to the rescue
Often seen wandering around backstage, there’s every possibility that Danhausen will stumble upon something, or someone, that also doesn’t take well to his antics.
While The MFTs and Bakusai have been locked in a feud, there’s an option to leave Danhausen in peril should he come across Haku and decide to try anything with the legendary star.
Bakusai aren’t the only team that has the MFTs in their sights; the War Raiders also have their sights on Talla & Tama Tonga.
The image of Danhausen inadvertently getting in the middle of The MFTs, Bakusai and The War Raiders would be an unusual one, but be a perfect set up for GUNTHER to be left with no choice but to rescue the star from harm, leading to…
GOONhausen
This isn’t the long-term future for either star, but a short run on the WWE Live house show scene would be a perfect way to see how Danhausen and GUNTHER perform as a team before bringing them to SmackDown.
Danhausen has been in odd-couple style tag teams previously, having formed the short-lived Hookhausen in AEW, teaming with Hook. The pairing garnered fans and gave another side to the typically silent star. While GUNTHER is far from silent, he certainly fits the “cold-hearted” mold and would be an ideal foil for the louder Danhausen and all his eccentric ways.
Stay out of the lab
The laboratory, the experiments and the visual effects are all elements that should be kept away from GUNTHER when it comes to his relationship with Danhausen.
This week’s SmackDown saw Danhausen wielding an “evil detector”, and that’s pretty much as far as it should go. Whereas the lab has played its part in past feuds, be it Judgment Day, The Miz or Matt Cardona, there’s no upside to a character whose comedic side comes from acerbic sarcasm such as GUNTHER.
Danhausen to the rescue
In the position that GUNTHER is in, it’s difficult to picture a scene where the star is in need of a rescue, but there is certainly the opportunity for an ambush or overwhelming numbers to play a factor.
For Danhausen to “accidentally” even the odds in GUNTHER’s favor may be the moment that The Ring General needs to reassess his opinion of the star, even if it doesn’t become a partnership of equals.
Whatever happens, keep it short
GUNTHER is bound to become the Undisputed WWE Champion at some point in the future, and whatever he does with Danhausen shouldn’t get in the way of that story for too long.
Keeping the story short and to the point would allow both stars to pursue new paths after they eventually part ways, with a fresh understanding and, in the case of GUNTHER, a begrudging respect for the “Very Nice, Very Evil” star.
It could be an entertaining tag team run to conclude at a future Saturday Night’s Main Event.
