WWE reboots Damian Priest: can the former WWE Champion get back to the top?

WWE

After featuring in a gritty new vignette from the streets of NY, WWE SmackDown star Damian Priest is reconnecting with his Bronx roots.

Given that there is still some unfinished business between Priest and R-Truth, it seems that the former WWE Champion isn’t quite ready to move on but a shift is coming.

While there have been various iterations of Damian Priest over the years in WWE, his latest character relaunch could be the truest to life yet.

Wrapping up with R-Truth

With WWE SmackDown on October 2 featuring an intriguing vignette from the former WWE Champion Damian Priest, made it clear that his character was pivoting.

Featuring clips of Priest throughout the streets and subways of New York City, the Bronx-native highlighted his humble beginnings and also showcased a renewed intensity for success.

Rather than placing blame directly on R-Truth, Priest took an interesting perspective as he seemingly took accountability for having lost himself and his partnership with Truth being a symptom.

While it certainly seems that the pair may tangle again  down the line, Priest left the vignette with a warning for Truth to effectively stay out of his way.

Forge new partnerships

While Damian Priest is currently presenting as a heel in his feud with R-Truth, the vignette certainly left the door open for a more babyface presentation moving forward from this betrayal.

Potentially linking up on screen with his real-life girlfriend Lola Vice, the duo could certainly become the latest WWE power couple in the ring.

Another possible new ally if Priest were to stick to a badass babyface bend, NXT’s Cruz Montana formerly known as Mike Santana in TNA and AEW.

Bringing together a brand new super group on SmackDown, the trio could end up taking over on the blue brand with mischievous antics to match their in-ring capacity for violence.

Take aim at Sami Zayn

One way for Damian Priest to immediately return into the Championship picture on SmackDown could be to target Sami Zayn.

With seemingly endless challengers targeting Zayn already, adding Priest into the mix of those in the hunt to capture the Undisputed WWE Championship makes total sense.

In the process of attempting to get an opportunity against Zayn, Damian Priest could pick up plenty of new rivalries with the others who are chasing Zayn for a title shot.

Setting up potential showdowns with the likes of Kevin Owens, Randy Orton or even Cody Rhodes or familiar foe Finn Balor – Priest might find himself quite quickly back to the top of the card on WWE SmackDown.
