AEW has announced a brand new stipulation ‘Clockwork Carnage’ to debut at the upcoming WrestleDream pay-per-view.

At AEW All Out, Will Ospreay retained the AEW World Championship against Jon Moxley in the show’s main event, bringing an end to their month’s long storyline.

Ospreay now reigns as AEW World Champion heading into the WrestleDream event, which takes place in two weeks time in Orlando, Florida.

AEW Clockwork Carnage to debut at WrestleDream

On tonight’s episode of AEW Collision, Tony Khan asked Will Ospreay what he would want his next title defence to be at WrestleDream, to which Ospreay would name his terms.

What followed was the announcement of a brand new stipulation match heading to AEW: Clockwork Carnage.

The rules for the match are as followed:

– 8 wrestlers, two stages

– 2 wrestlers start the match selected at random

– Every 3 minutes, another wrestler enters at random

– Until all 8 wrestlers enter the match, any wrestler pinned or submitted is eliminated

– Once the final wrestler enters, all remaining wrestlers have a 15 minute scoring period

– Every pinfall or submission in the 15 minute scoring period scores one fall

– When the time expires, the wrestler with the most falls is the winner

No competitors for the match are currently known outside of Will Ospreay, nor is it known if qualifying matches will take place for the match.

Ospreay is set to defend the AEW World Championship against Kazuchika Okada at AEW Grand Slam France next week, with Andrade El Idolo also still having his contract for a title match after winning the Casino Gauntlet.

Will the chaos of Clockwork Carnage work for AEW?

In recent years, one of the most popular new match stipulations is NXT’s Iron Survivor Challenge, hosted each year at Deadline.

In many ways, the final 15 minutes of Clockwork Carnage are exactly like the Iron Survivor, minus the wrestlers being sent to a penalty box after they are pinned, so if the match plays out like those ones do, there’s no reason to believe that the match wouldn’t work with AEW’s roster too.

Furthermore, AEW has never missed when it comes to debuting unique stipulations in the company, with the Casino Battle Royal and Casino Gauntlet matches beloved by the fans, as is the chaotic nature of Anarchy in the Arena and Stadium Stampede.
