WWE Money in the Bank 2026 could be a landmark event in the career of LA Knight as it could be his final chance to become World Champion.
Knight faces Roman Reigns in a rematch from Crown Jewel 2023, which saw Reigns retain the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in Riyadh.
This time, in New Orleans on Saturday, it’s for the World Heavyweight Championship, which Reigns has held onto since he won it from CM Punk at WrestleMania 42 this past April.
Reigns went a couple of years without a title between Mania 40 and 42, but he was still Roman Reigns during that time – he was still the biggest star on any card he was part of, and sometimes wrestling Reigns in itself feels like a championship match even if it isn’t.
LA Knight’s WWE career has been a different story. Despite being one of the most popular names on the roster among fans for around four years now, he’s still never held a world championship.
He’s had two separate reigns with the United States Title, in 2024 and 2025, but even with those, they weren’t really all that memorable and it feels like he should have achieved a whole lot more.
All things considered, Knight may actually go down as the most popular star in modern wrestling to never break through to become world champion, but why is that?
Why has LA Knight never been WWE World Champion?
We’ve seen glimpses through things like WWE Unreal, and heard rumors here and there, that Knight isn’t always the easiest person to do business with or get along with backstage.
Perhaps there’s some hesitancy from WWE management to put someone with that reputation in the position of being world champion.
The other side of that is, look at so many of the world champions throughout history – not just in wrestling but in sport in general.
Part of being an elite athlete or sportsman is having that personality that carries you above everyone else, which Knight undoubtedly has, but with wrestling being about the company’s choice of top star and not just the best or most popular talent earning championships like in ‘real’ sports, Knight may have hit that brick wall.
Another issue is the age debate, which has come up numerous times over the past few years, which is that WWE has been over-reliant on names in their 40s at the top level.
Knight at 43 is another one of those, and it may just be that if he was 10 or even five years younger, WWE would be more willing to elevate him.
It feels like Money in the Bank could be Knight’s final chance to win that elusive World Championship, something he’s no doubt earned over not just the past few years, but his entire career to this point.
And unfortunately, with Oba Femi lurking and seemingly planned for his big showdown with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 43, the window for Knight may have come and gone.
