Report: Top AEW Star Called CM Punk ‘A Cancer’ Backstage AEW

As the investigation into the AEW All Out backstage incident draws to a close, a new detail has emerged that an AEW name and wrestling veteran approached CM Punk to discuss the incident.

Many names were seemingly involved in the incident and suspended as a result. However, other names were involved as apparent voices of reason following the backstage brawl.

Chris Jericho was one of those names and has been praised for stepping up in the locker room in the absence of Punk, Kenny Omeg and the Young Bucks.

As per Fightful Select (subscription required), numerous sources have told them that Chris Jericho approached CM Punk directly to express his unhappiness over the backstage incident, and the scrum itself.

According to numerous sources, Jericho even told Punk that he was a ‘cancer to the locker room’ and ‘a detriment to the company’.

The sources did not echo CM Punk’s response verbatim to these comments, but said that Punk told Jericho that it was not his business and he needed to leave.

Following this, Jericho made an appearance at the media scrum, and was also present to help lead a talent meeting that took place in the days following the All Out incident.

Chris Jericho has since negotiated a contract extension with AEW that has seen his responsibilities expand to include production, creative and mentoring duties. You can read more about the deal right here.

This news comes shortly after a video tease was aired during this past Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite on October 26, showing The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega being ‘erased’ from AEW history.

The video is symbolic of a return for the former trios champions, who had to vacate the titles they acquired at AEW All Out while an investigation into the incident took place. They were notably backstage at the show this past Wednesday.

Another name involved, CM Punk aide Ace Steel, was recently released.

CM Punk is recovering from a tricep injury that he sustained during All Out. As of last word, AEW were reportedly in talks with CM Punk to buy him out of the remaining years of his contract. Talks have stalled due to discussions over a non-complete clause.

Chris Jericho has made comments concerning the backstage incident, and consistent with his reputation of stepping up, he said he wanted to focus on the positives going on in AEW.
