Orange Cassidy Says He’s ‘Really Not Doing Much’ When Mentoring AEW Star AEW

Orange Cassidy has discussed his relationship with AEW TBS Champion Kris Statlander, explaining why he doesn’t feel like he’s mentoring her.

With Cassidy having coaching experience before arriving in AEW, the current International Champion has acted as a mentor to several stars, including Wheeler Yuta.

Speaking on the Under The Ring podcast, Cassidy stated that he and Kris Statlander always bounce ideas off of one another nowadays.

Noting that he doesn’t believe he and Statlander have a typical mentor/protege relationship, he said:

“Kris Statlander is very special because she’s part of our little stable and her and I have become very good friends.

“She’s in a very similar spot that I was when I had my first title run that she’s in now, so we can kind of lean on each other and kind of help each other out.

“It’s not really so much that I’m mentoring her as we’re kind of just like bouncing ideas off each other.

“Then it’s also very easy when Kris Statlander is one of the best professional wrestlers in the world, just to be like, ‘Oh, hey, you should do this’, and she does it incredibly, like, I’m not really doing too much. She’s already figured it out.”

Both Cassidy and Statlander will defend their gold at Full Gear 2023, with Cassidy putting his International Title on the line against Jon Moxley, and Kris Statlander defending in a three-way match.
