Popular AEW Star Buries Four Pillar Talk

Popular AEW Star Buries Four Pillar Talk Shop AEW

The four pillars of AEW were first suggested in 2021 with MJF, Sammy Guevara, Jungle Boy and Darby Allin being the associated names.

The idea stems from All Japan Pro Wrestling, with AJPW’s Pillars of Heaven being Kenta Kobashi, Mitsuharu Misawa, Toshiaki Kawada and Akira Taue.

One of the young AEW stars who was not considered one of the pillars was Ricky Starks.

He had previously dismissed the concept.

In a recent interview, he explained his issue with the term further.

Speaking on The Wrestling Classic podcast, Starks addressed his displeasure at the term that he “hates”, saying:

“I don’t want to be involved in it. I like most of the people in that conversation, and it’s a cool gimmick.

“It’s a cool shirt; it’s a cool tagline to run with.

“But to me, heartfelt, I don’t like it because [I don’t want to be] put in such a pigeon-holed thing, you know what I’m saying?”

There are other reasons why he doesn’t consider himself one of the four pillars of AEW.

With the four pillars being seen as the “young stars” of AEW, all of the names are under 30.

Age isn’t an obstacle as far as Starks sees it, who concluded his pillar talk by saying:

“First off, what’s old?

“That’s what I want to know.

“I’m literally 32, so give me a break.

“I’m just saying, I put it online that I don’t want to be included in talks of pillars.”

The AEW Shop still has the Pillar Talk T-shirt available for sale.

Starks recently turned down an opportunity to join the Jericho Appreciation Society.

This has led to a first time ever match for AEW Dynamite on the January 4 episode.
