Report: Tony Khan ‘Pushed & Pushed’ For Jay Briscoe Tribute, Made WBD Change Their Minds AEW

Following the death of Jay Briscoe on January 17, Tony Khan had worked hard to pay tribute to the ROH star, despite initial resistance from WBD.

Now, further details of why the Warner Bros Discovery policy towards the Briscoes had changed, allowing the appearance of Mark Briscoe on AEW Dynamite and a tribute to Jay Briscoe have been revealed.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Melter revealed that:

“The whole thing is you have to credit that one to Tony Khan. He pushed and pushed. He pushed really hard on this one and got them to change their minds. They were pretty dead set against it.”

As previously reported, Mark and Jay Briscoe had never appeared on AEW TV and were essentially stuck in Ring Of Honor, reportedly because WBD had made a ruling based on comments Jay had made years ago that he’d since apologized and made amends for multiple times.

Mark Briscoe appeared on the January 25 episode of AEW Dynamite, on what would have been Jay Briscoe’s 39th birthday, in an emotional main event against Jay Lethal.

The match saw Tony Schiavone and Taz leave, with ROH announcers Ian Riccaboni and Caprice Coleman stepping in to join Excalibur at the announce desk, and Mark picked up the win with the Jay Driller before members of the AEW/ROH roster, including Tony Khan, came out onto the stage to embrace Mark.
