Big E has opened up on Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods’ WWE departures, believing that the New Day members are not retired.

Back in April, WWE held it’s latest round of talent cuts, with over 20 names being released from the company, which ended up including New Day members Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods.

Kofi and Woods were not released as part of the initial round of cuts, with their departures instead being confirmed days later after it was reported that WWE and TKO had offered them to take a paycut one year into their five year contracts, with both men rejected.

Big E Doesn’t Believe Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods Are Retired Following WWE Departure

Big E remains the only New Day member still in WWE, working as a broadcaster for the company as part of it’s premium live events, and he has now opened up on Kofi and Woods’ departures.

Speaking to The A2TheK Wrestling Show, Big E opened up on the New Day’s depatures, noting that he doesn’t believe the duo are retired.

He said:

“It is a big period of change for those two for sure, I think they both assume their entire wrestling careers would be in WWE, I mean Woods started in TNA and Kofi was on the indies for a little bit, but I feel they both thought they’d retire in WWE.

“But there’s new ownership, things change, that’s the nature of the business. It’s also not a forever job, it’s not a job you’re going to do forever and ever.

“I don’t think those guys are retired. I don’t think they’re gonna put their boots away and be done, so I’m excited to see whatever is next. We communicate a lot, I try not to pry, I let them tell me what they want to tell me.

“But also it’s a time where they both have three kids apiece, and getting that time to spend with their family. The schedule is a bit lighter than it used to be, but when we first started we were doing five shows a week, and when you’re on top or even just a popular midcard act, even on those non-wrestling days, we were often on the road. We were often shooting things.

“So those guys missed a lot of time with their families, and that’s something they signed up for, they’re not asking for people to pat them on the back and say woe is you, but I think they’re also enjoying the time at home right now during this 90 day period.”

Big E Reflects On The New Day’s Legacy In WWE

Big E would continue on, talking about the relationship he had with the pair, and how it impacted his career and life.

He said:

“Those guys will be family forever, I think what we built, I can’t imagine a better partnership, I can’t imagine a more fun run. We might not have been top guys that entire run, but getting to do the unique things we do, and for me more than anything; was I ever going to be the greatest wrestler? The greatest talker? The greatest in-ring worker? No, but I always wanted to be able to leave a stamp on the industry that was different and memorable, and I think we did that.

“I couldn’t replace them with anyone. Even imagining what it would be like, there are so many great wrestlers out there, but you change one piece and the dynamic shifts so much, but we had so much fun, and that is what I am so grateful for.”

Are The New Day WWE’s Greatest Ever Trio?

A number of years ago, WWE themselves shared a ranking of who they believe to be the greatest tag teams in the history of the company, featuring iconic teams from years past and present.

At the end of it all, the New Day were named as WWE’s greatest ever tag team, with Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods holding 12 tag team championships, including what was at the time the longest reign in history.

While The New Day faces strong competition from the likes of the Shield among others, there is a case to be made that, with the story surrounding the group and their legacy, that the New Day is the greatest trio to ever grace WWE television.
