Blake Monroe and Giulia have reacted to their advertised WWE Friday Night SmackDown match being called off.
After months of build up, the August 21 episode of WWE SmackDown was due to host the main roster in-ring debut of former NXT Women’s North American Champion Blake Monroe, who was set to meet Giulia.
Keeping with Monroe’s recent behavior on SmackDown, instead of wrestling Giulia, ‘The Glamour’ attacked her former STARDOM rival on the entrance ramp before the match could begin.
Monroe and Giulia would eventually get into the ring, however, the English star quickly delivered a Neutralizer to her opponent, with the match then being officially called off afterwards.
After putting away Giulia, Monroe explained that her sights are only on Chelsea Green and the WWE Women’s Championship, hence why she didn’t allow her debut match to get started.
Speaking to WWE’s cameras, Monroe said:
“I didn’t wait four months to get called up to SmackDown, and I didn’t wait nine years to get to WWE to have my debut like that.
“I’m World Championship material, so you find Chelsea Green, you bring her to me, and then you get The Glamour. Until then get out my face.”

The following day after WWE SmackDown, Giulia took to Twitter to share her thoughts on the match, simply writing:
Ridiculous
This then led to a response from Monroe, who expectedly showed little in the way of remorse for her actions, as she wrote:
womp womp
Giulia then answered back once more, telling her rival to “keep yapping”, as it remains unclear if/when fans will get to see the pair lock up on WWE TV.
Chelsea Green is currently out of action with a broken orbital bone, and Nick Aldis has given her 30 days to get cleared and defend her WWE Women’s Championship, otherwise she’ll be stripped of the gold.
While she didn’t take any offense herself, Green did get physical with a kendo stick on last night’s SmackDown, as she came to the defense of Tiffany Stratton, who was being beaten down two-on-one by The Irresistible Forces (Nia Jax & Lash Legend).
WWE’s Long Game Approach Growing Tiresome
While the volatile and nonsensical booking of the latter years of the Vince McMahon era was rightfully a source of frustration, WWE’s slow and steady approach under Triple H has its own problems.
Whether it be tag team breakups that drag on far, far too long – or in some cases nowhere (A-Town Down Under and The Kabuki Warriors) – long-awaited championship wins (LA Knight), or character developments (Johnny Gargano snapping out of his depressive state), WWE has become known to make fans wait.
Blake Monroe’s debut is the latest example of this, and while her actions do fit well with her character, there’s little reason why this is only happening in August – four months after her call-up from NXT – rather than back in May or June.
WWE baiting and switching Blake Monroe’s in-ring debut is not a massive deal in the grand scheme of things if it leads to her actually wrestling soon, but it’s another example of why WWE fans should temper their expectations when something is announced.
