Former WWE star Braun Strowman has recalled catching Vince McMahon’s attention as a Rosebud, leading to a main roster call up.
On the WWE Raw after SummerSlam in 2015, Braun Strowman made his debut on the main roster as the newest member of the Wyatt Family.
Strowman had been signed with WWE for over a year prior to his main roster debut, though he never officially debuted on NXT television, competing in only four matches prior to his debut on the main roster.
Vince McMahon First Spotted Braun Strowman As A Rosebud
However, his Wyatt Family debut wasn’t the first time Strowman appeared on Raw, as he made an appearance as one of Adam Rose’s Rosebuds the prior year, which is where he initially caught Vince McMahon’s attention.
Speaking to 10,000 NOs, Strowman opened up on being a Rosebud, and how he made the most of the opportunity.
He said:
“I’ll give you an exact example of taking a little opportunity and making something out of it. When I was in developmental in NXT in Orlando, one, it was rough, I broke two ribs seven days into the business, then like 9 months later I ruptured my L5S1 that completely paralyzed my left leg. I had emergency surgery, I got 85% of it back. So my entire career I wrestle on TV, 10 years main roster I had 15% atrophy in my leg the whole time.
“But talking about right place, right time, there was a guy at the time named Adam Rose and his gimmick was this party guy and he had this party bus and a group of motley crew, random people, in his entrance he’d come out with all these people dancing, he’d climb up on the ropes and then trust fall back into us.
“I was gifted the part of catching him and was wearing this Fisher Price Roman Spartan plastic outfit, and Vince saw me out there goofing and it was like ‘who the hell is that and why is he doing this?’
“So I literally took this tiny goofy opportunity to do something on TV, and I showed out, made the most out of it, and it caught the boss’ attention, and he literally, at that time I had four wrestling matches in my entire life, he said ‘I see something in you, I know you don’t know what you’re doing, we’re gonna learn on the road’, and he debuted me the Monday Night Raw after SummerSlam, four matches in my entire career.”

The Rosebuds & Other Successful WWE Cameo Appearances
Braun Strowman was far from the only successful WWE star to make an appearance as a Rosebud on WWE television, as other names from that era of NXT, including Becky Lynch, Alexa Bliss, Elias, Carmella and the Vaudevillains, also appeared among Rose’s entourage at one point.
Over the years, many legendary wrestlers have got their start as a cameo appearance on WWE television, mostly as security guards, where names such as Sheamus, Wade Barrett, Bobby Roode and LA Knight, among others, made their first televised appearances.
AEW World Champion MJF also famously made a cameo appearance on WWE television back in 2016, where he was shoved into a wall by Samoa Joe during his run as the NXT Champion.
Whenever extras are used for WWE programming, you should keep your eye out for the next potential future WWE Champion.
