Bryan Danielson Explains Why He Chose To Sign With AEW Over WWE WWE

Bryan Danielson famously made his AEW debut at the end of the 2021 AEW All Out pay-per-view, where he confronted then-AEW World Champion Kenny Omega and the Elite.

Danielson had not appeared in wrestling since April 30 of that year, when he was banished from SmackDown by Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

Speculation arose in the following months about when Bryan would next pop up, with the primary options being either a WWE return or signing with AEW, to which he chose the latter.

However, per Bryan himself on the Sessions with Renee Paquette, there was actually a third option which Bryan weighed up during his time off.

He explained:

“So people think I had two options between WWE and AEW, and the reality was I was considering three options, which was WWE, AEW, or just not being a full-time wrestler anymore and being more of a full-time dad. When I told that to Brie with the money that each company was offering to me, I think she might’ve wanted to kill me.”

Bryan continued on, explaining the three reasons that he chose to join AEW over re-signing with WWE, he cited the following:

  1. A lighter schedule
  2. More creative freedom
  3. The chance to change things and try something new

Bryan is currently a member of the Blackpool Combat Club in AEW alongside AEW Interim World Champion Jon Moxley, ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli and ROH Pure Champion Wheeler Yuta.
