Carmelo Hayes Title Defense Announced For NXT No Mercy 2023

Carmelo Hayes Title Defense Announced For NXT No Mercy 2023 WWE

Carmelo Hayes’ NXT Title defense for Carmelo Hayes has been confirmed on tonight’s September 5 episode of NXT.

After Ilja Dragunov had picked up a win over Oro Mensah tonight, he was interrupted by Wes Lee who said it should be him who gets a rematch against Hayes for the NXT Championship, not Dragunov.

However, Hayes himself then came out and informed the pair that he had approached Shawn Michaels regarding the plans for the next title shot.

Hayes revealed that Wes Lee and Ilja Dragunov would have a match against each other on next week’s episode of WWE NXT, with the winner moving forward to a title shot against him at NXT No Mercy 2023.

No Mercy takes place on Sunday, September 30 in Bakersfield, California.

Of course it’s always possible the match could actually end up being a three-way given how the storyline has played out with a possible non-finish to the match next week, but as it was announced, the winner will get the title shot..

Elsewhere on tonight’s NXT, another big match made official for next week’s September 12 episode for the NXT Women’s Championship.

WWE main roster star Becky Lynch appeared in a pre-taped video to challenge Tiffany Stratton to a title shot next week on NXT – you can read all about that by clicking this link.

Still to come tonight, a number one contender’s match to determine who is next for Dominik Mysterio’s NXT North American Championship.

Dirty Dom is set to be the special guest referee in a match between Dragon Lee and Mustafa Ali on tonight’s show.
