Which AEW Star Really Advised Tony Khan To Fire CM Punk Revealed AEW/WWE

A new report has claimed that AEW star Bryan Danielson was involved in Tony Khan’s decision to fire CM Punk from the company.

In his statement announcing Punk’s firing in September, Khan said that a “disciplinary committee” had advised him to make that decision, and he was following up on that recommendation.

According to Fightful Select, with AEW Chief Legal Officer Megha Parekh reportedly stepping back from her duties recently, the committee consisted of the individual who assumed most of her prior responsibilities, ‘General Counsel’ Chris Peck, as well as an outside attorney, and finally, Bryan Danielson.

Not only was Danielson involved but it was said that it was him who effectively “headed up” the committee.

According to unnamed sources within the AEW roster, Danielson was added to the committee due to him being an “appropriate moral compass who exemplifies objectivity.”

Danielson reportedly met with the AEW roster regarding the decision to terminate Punk’s contract, noting the decision as a “hard one” but one that “had to be made” despite the positives CM Punk brought to AEW as well as his own personal long-standing friendship with Punk.

Eyebrows were raised recently regarding a cryptic tweet Danielson made in which he said:

My dad always told me, “The right thing is often the hardest thing to do.” It won’t always make the most money.

It won’t always be the most popular. But it’s still the right thing. #AEW

According to Fightful Select, sources indicated this message is exactly what Danielson also told AEW talent during his meeting with the talent roster.

Interestingly, according to the report, Punk was well aware of Danielson’s involvement due to his friends on the roster who were present for the meeting.

Danielson’s role is said to be part of his “continued duty” in AEW, with it also being revealed that the he’s also responsible for handing out fines when necessary.

Tony Khan has said publicly that if something happened to him where he couldn’t run AEW anymore, he’d want his father to give control of the promotion to Bryan Danielson.

Punk has of course been all over the news ever since his shocking WWE return at Survivor Series 2023 on November 25 and his first appearance on Monday Night Raw in almost a decade two days later.
