CM Punk’s next WWE appearance has been announced amid his ongoing absence from WWE television since the Raw after WrestleMania 42.
CM Punk lost his World Heavyweight Championship to Roman Reigns back in the main event of WrestleMania 42 night two after Roman challenged him following his Royal Rumble victory.
On the Raw after WrestleMania, Punk would take part in a segment with Cody Rhodes, where he teased a potential future match with Cody, and has not appeared since on WWE television.
CM Punk’s First WWE Appearance Since Night After WrestleMania 42 Announced
Amid Punk’s absence, it has now been reported that he is expected to be back in the fold by the upcoming WWE Raw show in Chicago, as well as being part of the SmackDown brand upon his return.
On tonight’s SmackDown, Punk’s first WWE appearance since the night after WrestleMania was announced, with him set to appear at Fanatics Fest in New York City on July 19.
World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns had also previously been confirmed for the event, among other top WWE stars.
CM Punk Set To Shake Up Friday Nights
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, CM Punk is currently planned to join SmackDown when he makes his return to WWE TV, rather than remain on Raw.
The “Second City Saint” has been away from the action since his face-to-face with Cody Rhodes during the Raw after WrestleMania, and according to Meltzer, a program with Cody is something that we could see when Punk shows up.
While SmackDown lost Roman Reigns after his World Heavyweight Title win, they gained GUNTHER, and also have Drew McIntyre and Cody’s WrestleMania 42 opponent Randy Orton set to return as well.
Adding Punk to that stacked main event scene will present some exciting possibilities, as well as give him the opportunity to mix it up with new faces and some former foes, such as McIntyre, Orton and GUNTHER.
With Oba Femi the odds on favorite to win the King of the Ring, and likely challenge Roman Reigns at SummerSlam, Punk vs. Rhodes stands out as perhaps the biggest possible headline match SmackDown could deliver for the “Biggest Party of the Summer,” and it may be the route WWE choose to take.
