CM Punk Says Thought ‘Crossed His Mind’ To Have MJF Come Out At First Dance

CM Punk is an active professional wrestler. It still feels weird to say, but Punk made his return to a sold out United Center on the August 20 ‘First Dance’ episode of AEW Rampage after seven years out of the wrestling business.

Punk’s return was the worst kept secret in wrestling, but some fans still never expected Punk to show up until his music hit. Even then, fans had thought of the possibility of AEW star MJF coming out to Punk’s ‘Cult of Personality’ song that night to a chorus of boos from the eager fans awaiting Punk’s big return.

Punk himself spoke to Josh Martinez on Z100, where he admitted that even he himself thought about having MJF come out on that night. He said:

“Lowest hanging fruit in that aspect. That, of course, did cross my mind. Once I realized that was the thought on everybody’s mind, to me, it wasn’t the right thing to do yet. Not yet.”

Punk has been active in the ring for AEW since his return, stepping into the ring with Darby Allin, Powerhouse Hobbs, Daniel Garcia and most recently Matt Sydal. Fans have wondered why Punk has been wrestling singles matches and not challenging for the World title, but Punk himself admitted that he doesn’t want to follow the ‘formula’.

Punk added:

“I’m telling a specific story here of coming back, restarting, rekindling my love of pro wrestling. I look at it like, if I went back to WWE, what would I do? I come back, I win the Royal Rumble…there’s a track record and a formula for that they do. Batista comes back, he wins the Royal Rumble, he main events WrestleMania. Edge comes back, he’s in the Royal Rumble, he goes on to main event WrestleMania. There’s a formula. I was bored of that shit ten years ago so I’m bored of it now. To me, I understand people saying they don’t like certain things, I get it. It’s not for you. I’m there for the fans in the building. I’m telling the stories I want to tell and I’m having fun doing it. You’ll know when it’s not fun for me because I won’t do it,”

Punk is set to make his AEW Dynamite in-ring debut on this Wednesday’s (October 27) episode of the show, when he faces Bobby Fish
