An interesting backstage note on has emerged on CM Punk and his in-ring promo segment from Friday’s edition of WWE SmackDown.
Punk is currently a WWE free agent, able to appear for any of the company’s brands.
Ahead of him officially choosing his home brand on Monday’s (December 11) edition of Raw, Punk cut a promo on SmackDown to tease his next move.
CM Punk called out Roman Reigns, and spoke about his relationships with the likes of Seth Rollins, Randy Orton, LA Knight and Kevin Owens while on the mic.
Punk also appeared to reference his AEW exit, which you can read more about right here.
Per Fightful Select, there wasn’t a producer listed internally for Punk’s promo segment.
Because of this, it’s unclear if CM Punk had any help structuring his promo, but the lack of producer listed indicates that a backstage producer wasn’t involved with his segment and he had at least most of the control over how it went.
The producers listed for the show were as follows:
Shane Helms – Dragon Lee vs. Santos Escobar
Jason Jordan – Karrion Kross vs. Bobby Lashley
Petey Williams – Charlotte Flair vs. Asuka
Michael Hayes – Randy Orton & LA Knight vs. Bloodline

Punk’s week may not be over, with the former WWE Champion teasing another big appearance in the form of potentially showing up at NXT Deadline tonight.
