With AEW set to hold it’s All Out pay-per-view in Chicago on September 4, and CM Punk returning at last week’s Quake by the Lake special episode of Dynamite, it appeared as though the main event of the show was set.
However, AEW threw a curveball on Wednesday when it was announced that the big AEW World Championship unification match, pitting Interim AEW World Champion Jon Moxley against AEW World Champion CM Punk, would not be happening at All Out, but rather on next week’s Dynamite show.
This led to immediate fan speculation about what could be waiting in All Out’s main event, and whether or not MJF would return to set up a title match at the show.
However, per Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, CM Punk vs Jon Moxley for both titles is still listed internally as the main event of All Out.
He wrote:
Currently the 9/4 All Out PPV has C.M. Punk vs. Jon Moxley for both belts (this is not announced and not 100 percent but it is being talked about as the current plan and there doesn’t appear to be a backup plan )
All Out is set for September 4, which we now know will be the same day as the Worlds Collide event, which sees the top stars of NXT 2.0 face off with the top stars of NXT UK.
If you’re in the UK but didn’t manage to get tickets to Clash at the Castle on September 3, WrestleTalk is hosting a watch party at The Joiner on Worship in Shoreditch, London, and we’d love for you to join us! Click here for more details.
