On last night’s episode of SmackDown Live, Daniel Bryan’s opponent at WWE Backlash 2018 was announced as Big Cass.
Cass made his SmackDown Live return last week after being out of action with a knee injury since the day after SummerSlam 2017. His first course of action was belittling Daniel Bryan, before attacking him during the ‘”Yes!” Man’s main event tag team match in which he teamed with WWE Champion AJ Styles to take on Rusev and Aiden English.
After The Miz was also drafted to SmackDown Live last week, speculation and hype have been rampant surrounding a presumably upcoming clash between he and Daniel Bryan – a match almost eight years in the making.
It looks like we’ll have to wait for that though, because following Big Cass’ appearance on Miz TV last night, and a backstage attack on Daniel Bryan, it will be ‘Queen’s Finest’ who gets first dibs as Daniel Bryan announced in an interview with Renee Young.
During the aforementioned Miz TV segment, The Miz told Cass that he doesn’t need his help and wants to take on Bryan himself. I have a feeling though that this is all just a rouse from the eight-time WWE Intercontinental Champion, and this is part of a cunning plan to ensure he defeats Daniel Bryan at some point down the line.
Here is the full confirmed card for WWE Backlash 2018 so far:
- Roman Reigns vs. Samoa Joe
- Seth Rollins (c) vs. The Miz – WWE Intercontinental Championship
- Nia Jax (c) vs. Alexa Bliss – WWE Raw Women’s Championship
- Carmella (c) vs. Charlotte Flair – WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship
- Daniel Bryan vs. Big Cass
Of course, some of these matches may be subject to change depending on results at Greatest Royal Rumble this Friday.
WWE Backlash 2018 will stream live on Sunday, May 6, at 8 ET/5 PT on the WWE Network.
