AEW Star Responds To Criticism Of Recent Match AEW

An AEW star has fired back at a critique of a memorable moment during a match on the July 1 episode of AEW Collision.

In a quarter-final of the men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, Powerhouse Hobbs took on Dustin Rhodes, with Hobbs ultimately securing the victory via some QT Marshall interference.

However, before that, Rhodes took the audience’s breath away when he kicked out Hobbs’ Spinebuster, the move that usually secures victory, at just the count of one.

After seeing this happen numerous times recently in AEW courtesy of Jon Moxley, Tomohiro Ishii and most notably Kenny Omega at Forbidden Door, a Twitter user criticised its overuse, labelling it “diminishing returns” in comparison to Omega’s kick-out against Ospreay which the user said was used “perfectly”.

This unsurprisingly led Rhodes to respond in defence of the early kick-out, tweeting:

I suggest you sit down again and watch my match over.

We do things at the right time for the pop. It’s electric when it happens.

I kicked out cause I am a tough son of a bitch.

Specifically “Your” opinion doesn’t matter.

Despite this, Rhodes also received plenty plaudits for his performance from his fans who jumped into the comments of the post to defend the 54-year-old.

Powerhouse Hobbs is set for a date with former tag partner Ricky Starks in the semi-finals of the Owen Hart Tournament, while CM Punk faces Samoa Joe for the other spot in the final.

Both matches take place on this week’s Collision (July 8) in Regina, SK, with the final set for the week after on July 15’s Collision from Calgary, Alberta.

Interestingly a different moment involving Kenny Omega from Forbidden Door led to its fair share of controversy, that being the incredibly scary use of the rarely-seen Tiger Driver 91 move from Will Ospreay, which led to Omega landing scarily on his neck.

Omega has now responded to the backlash from the worrying spot – click here to find out what he had to say.
