Former WWE Stars Win IMPACT Championships

Former WWE Stars Win IMPACT Championships IMPACT Wrestling

Two former WWE stars are now the top champions in their divisions in IMPACT Wrestling after Rebellion last night (April 16).

Mickie James and Josh Alexander both recently had to relinquish the IMPACT Knockouts Championship and the IMPACT World Championship due to injuries, so two matches took place at Rebellion to crown the new champions.

The match for the World Championship saw Kushida face Steve Maclin, and it was Maclin who won to become the new world champion.

Maclin was formerly known as Steve Cutler of the Forgotten Sons in WWE.

He was released by WWE in February 2021 after he caught Covid at a New Year’s party, which got him fired as Vince McMahon had promised significant people on the roster that kind of thing wouldn’t happen with their co-workers.

Before the Maclin vs Kushida match took place, Nick Aldis appeared and announced his return to IMPACT, and then after the match, he confronted Maclin to seemingly set up a future match for the title.

Aldis had been a free agent since January with many believing he may have ended up in WWE or even AEW.

Aldis had been known as Brutus Magnus, and later just Magnus, during his previous time in TNA/IMPACT from 2009 to 2015.

The main event of Rebellion was a match for the Knockouts Championship between Jordynne Grace and Deonna Purrazzo, which Purrazzo won.

This makes her a three-time Knockouts Champion.

Purrazzo joined WWE NXT in 2018 but was released in 2020 having barely been used. Maclin and Purrazzo are a real-life married couple.
